Land Speed Record Art Exhibition Coming Soon. To be held at the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall, London (Members Only) and simultaneously in our virtual 3D online gallery (Open to all) and website for 6 weeks from 5th August 2017. The exhibition will then move to the Mall Galleries in London during the first week of November (London Motor Week).
The exhibition will focus on British drivers achievements in 'wheel-driven' Land Speed Record cars. Eleven top motorsport artists including John Ketchell, Joel Clark, Frederic Dams and Roy Putt have been selected to produce new original artworks for the event. Drivers will include Malcolm and Donald Campbell, Henry Segrave and George Eyston.
Innovation, determination, bravery and skill are all words associated with the Land Speed Record which holds a special place in the heart of many Petrolheads, and the exhibition hopes to celebrate the visual impact of these machines through different mediums and styles.
The last (and current) wheel-driven Land Speed Record was set in 1964 by Donald Campbell driving Bluebird CN7. It is 50 years since the death of Donald Campbell whilst attempting the Water Speed Record in 1967. A single special artwork of Bluebird K7 will commemorate his Water Speed Record attempts. In 1964 Donald Campbell became holder of both the Land Speed Record and Water Speed Record simultaneously.
