About Us

A passion for cars, arts & the automobile industry.

Founded in 2004 by automotive art specialist and historic racer Rupert Whyte, Historic Car Art has become one of the UK's leading authorities on automotive fine art, vintage motoring posters and automobilia.

Built from a lifelong passion for motorsport, automotive history and collecting, the business has spent more than two decades helping enthusiasts, collectors, museums and corporate clients acquire exceptional automotive artwork and build significant collections. Today, Historic Car Art is recognised internationally as a specialist dealer, publisher and curator operating at the forefront of the automotive art world.

Rupert's own involvement in historic motoring stretches back to the 1970s, culminating in a decade of historic racing that included campaigning a Caterham Seven, Lotus XI and Lotus 23B. Combined with a deep knowledge of automotive history, art and automobilia, this experience has helped establish Historic Car Art as a trusted source for collectors seeking expertise as well as exceptional artwork.

Over the past twenty years Historic Car Art has published limited-edition prints and represented many of the world's most respected automotive artists, working with established names whose work is held in private collections across the globe. Every project is guided by a commitment to historical accuracy, artistic excellence and the highest production standards.

The business has long been active at the centre of the international collector and enthusiast community. For many years Historic Car Art exhibited at some of the world's most prestigious motoring events, including the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Goodwood Revival, Race Retro and Retromobile in Paris. These events helped establish the company's reputation among collectors, enthusiasts and industry professionals alike.

Rupert is widely recognised as an authority on automotive art and collecting. He has written expert columns and features on motoring art for the highly respected American publication Automobilia Resource and for Magneto magazine, sharing insights into artists, collecting trends and the history of automotive imagery with an international audience.

Beyond publishing and dealing, Historic Car Art has played an important role in promoting automotive art through major exhibitions and collaborations. Rupert was a co-founder and organiser of The Art of Motoring, London, the annual exhibition presented in association with the Royal Automobile Club and regarded as one of Britain's leading showcases for automotive art. Since its launch in 2015, the exhibition has brought together many of the country's finest automotive artists and has become a significant event within the UK's motoring and cultural calendar.

Historic Car Art has also worked closely with the British Motor Museum, curating and organising exhibitions that introduce automotive art to a wider audience while celebrating the creativity and heritage of motoring culture. These collaborations reflect the company's standing within the wider automotive heritage sector and its commitment to preserving and promoting motoring history through art.

Operating from its Derbyshire base, Historic Car Art continues to serve clients throughout the UK, Europe, North America and beyond. Whether sourcing a significant original painting, building a collection of vintage motoring posters or publishing a new limited-edition print, our aim remains the same: to offer unrivalled expertise, exceptional quality and a genuine passion for automotive art.

More than twenty years after its founding, Historic Car Art remains dedicated to celebrating the people, cars, races and stories that have shaped motoring history.
