John KETCHELL
John Ketchell is one of Britain's most celebrated contemporary motorsport artists, renowned for expressive paintings that capture the drama, speed and atmosphere of historic motor racing. His distinctive impressionist style transforms iconic racing cars into dynamic works of art, using bold colour, energetic brushwork and dramatic lighting to convey movement rather than simply record it. The result is automotive art that is instantly recognisable and highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
This collection brings together original paintings and signed limited edition prints, allowing collectors to experience the full breadth of John Ketchell's work. From one-of-a-kind acrylic paintings to beautifully produced fine art editions, every piece reflects his lifelong fascination with motor racing and his exceptional ability to capture the emotion of competition.
After studying graphic design in Preston, Ketchell enjoyed successful careers as both an advertising illustrator and stop-frame animator before dedicating himself to painting full-time. Moving away from photorealism, he developed the bold semi-abstract style for which he is now internationally recognised. Inspired by the French Impressionists, he sought to express the sensation of speed through colour, texture and movement, creating paintings that immerse the viewer in the action rather than simply depicting it.
Collectors will find artwork celebrating many of the greatest eras in motorsport history, including Le Mans, Formula One, the Targa Florio, Sebring, the Mille Miglia and classic Grand Prix racing. His paintings feature legendary marques such as Porsche, Ferrari, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Alfa Romeo, Ford, Auto Union and Bentley, alongside iconic drivers including Jim Clark, Stirling Moss, Jackie Stewart and Juan Manuel Fangio. Whether portraying the spray of a rain-soaked endurance race or the glow of headlights during a night event, Ketchell consistently recreates the atmosphere that makes historic motor racing so compelling.
John Ketchell has undertaken commissions for leading automotive companies and private collectors around the world, and Historic Car Art regularly exhibits both his original paintings and limited edition prints at major motoring events. His work appeals equally to enthusiasts of fine art and motorsport, combining artistic expression with meticulous historical research to produce enduring collector pieces.
