Simon SCAMP
Simon Scamp is one of the few remaining traditional signwriters working in Britain today, creating original hand-painted wooden signs that combine classic craftsmanship with a passion for historic motoring. Working from his Cotswold studio, Simon produces every piece by hand using traditional signwriting techniques, creating distinctive automotive artwork that celebrates the style and character of vintage motor racing.
Each sign is individually painted onto routed wooden boards before being carefully distressed and finished to achieve the appearance of an authentic period piece. Inspired by classic Grand Prix racing, historic advertising and mid-century motorsport graphics, Simon's work has a timeless quality that makes it equally at home in a collector's garage, workshop, office or home.
This collection showcases Simon Scamp's original hand-painted wooden signs, each created as a unique piece of automotive art. From iconic Formula One subjects to evocative 1950s racing imagery, every sign reflects the enduring appeal of traditional craftsmanship and Britain's rich signwriting heritage.
Unlike digitally printed reproductions, every Simon Scamp sign is painted entirely by hand. Traditional lettering techniques, carefully applied artwork and individually aged finishes ensure that no two pieces are exactly alike. The result is original automotive artwork that possesses genuine character and the subtle imperfections that only hand-crafted work can achieve.
Drawing inspiration from the golden era of Grand Prix racing, Simon's signs celebrate legendary drivers, famous circuits and iconic competition cars while recalling the visual style of traditional garage signage and vintage motorsport advertising. Their combination of craftsmanship and nostalgic design makes them particularly appealing to collectors looking for something beyond conventional automotive prints.
Whether purchased as a unique display piece or commissioned to celebrate a favourite car or race, Simon Scamp's work preserves the traditional art of signwriting while bringing classic motoring history vividly to life.
